ATA Coaches Attend All RTC Symposium in Carson
ATA COO Deb Cahill, along with Academy coaches Doug Davis and Lucie Schmidhauser, attended the USTA ALL Regional Training Center Coaches Symposium in Carson, California this past weekend.
The event brought together senior coaches from each of the 24 USTA Regional Training Centers (one of which is ATA) for a weekend of professional training, while clarifying the intentions for, and expectations of, the programs going forward.

“The USTA Conference in Carson was incredible,” Coach Lucie said. “The days were long, but filled with invaluable information that we are eager to share with our ATA coaches, players and parents. We spent many hours on the court learning new ways to challenge our players and how to make practice even more challenging and focused.”
Cahill, Davis and Schmidhauser attended numerous informative workshops, learning about things like cultural awareness, the USTA’s vision for 10 and Under tennis, and sessions with Jose Higueras, the Director of Player Development for USTA, and former coach of tennis legends including Pete Sampras and Roger Federer.

“We had the pleasure to hear David Benzel once again and as always, his insight into the player-coach-parent dynamic is simply invaluable,” Lucie said, who herself is in the unique position of parent of a tennis player and a coach. “I would encourage everyone to go back to the handouts and notes that Mr. Benzel shared with us when he visited ATA last year!”
The coaches presented an overview of what they learned in Carson to the ATA staff on Tuesday, and will continue to disseminate the details going forward. The coaches have already been implementing new strategies into the daily practice plan.
